It's not intended for phone use. It's a music speaker. Has no microphone and is therefore not voice activated. You might be thinking of the one Amazon sells, the Alexa.

Not voice activated but if its synced with my iPhone it works great. Calls are clear and don't have to be super close to be able to have a lengthy conversation

I don't thing it's voice activated, but it's really clear when used to talk on as a phone. I'm always using it for that purpose while cooking.

It's not voice activated from my experience. You have to tap one of the buttons which is clearly marked. However,the sound quality is good...both ways.
