I was speaking to a JBL rep at the store (at least he was wearing a t-shirt that had JBL on it and he was hovering around the speakers) that stated the speaker has a separate battery and this would not reduce my play time even if I used all the juice to recharge my phone. I can not find anything to confirm what he said.”

• That "rep" doesn't know what he is talking about. Charging anything through the charge port will reduce the battery life and play time of the speaker.

• It uses the same battery for the speaker and charging, and charging a device will shorten the speaker's battery charge.

• Sounds like he didn't know what he was talking about. The specs call out one battery and provides both the 12 hours and the device charging. So if you use if to charge your phone, expect that they playtime will go down for the speaker. "6000mAH Rechargeable Battery. Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery supports up to 12 hours of playtime and charges devices via the USB port."

• If you use the speaker to charge your phone it will definitely reduce the charge on the speaker, unless you have the speaker plugged in. I use it to charge my phone all the time, but typically only when it is plugged it, so that I can maintain charge on both.

• Not sure about the separate battery. I'm going to contact JBL direct. I will say this. If it's not separate I don't notice the life of the battery draining faster with the phone charging and music playing
