It is meant, (designed) for either upright or horizontal. You'll notice that there are 3 leg like things, this is to give the bass drum space to flex so it's not actually laying directly on top of the drum. So yes. Either way is fine, and was actually designed to to rest either way! Personally I think it sounds better standing up especially on a hard surface like wood, or whatever....
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Standup seems to sound better. Bass does not get absorbed into objects like tables. In fact, if wood, the table can help to transmit the vibrations. Bass is much less directional overall and you'll notice home theater speakers often aim the bass port toward the wall or the floor. You'll also notice, if you look closely at the bottom when stood up, that only half of it is actually touching the thing it's standing out. The designers of this thing were very smart -- it lets the bass port "breathe". The mid-range and treble that come out of the "middle" of the flip do get absorbed so laying flat puts them closer to the table and more likely to get absorbed. In my opinion, it sound great either way, but I find slightly more clarity when standing it up.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think horizontally since the "woofers" on the sides reflex in and out when playing music. If rolling away is a concern, I have used it on its side and it still sounds and works fine.
