“From reviews I understand the sound is better than the Google Home but we use it on a shelf located between two rooms. The Home works great because of the 360 degree sound. How is the sound when standing behind the unit? Is it different than front?”

Yes the sound is different because there is no speakers facing the back of the unit, but it is still loud enough to enjoy, I love my JBL link view.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The bass actually goes out the back, so standing behind it you should get good bass but not hear the front facing treble speaker so well. So I guess it depends what you're into. I like to sit directly in front of it, in which case the stereo speakers work pretty well despite being so close together.
