Thanks for your question. It is possible that your JBL Pulse 5 is locked or there is a power button failure. To isolate the issue, while the unit is unplugged, power cycle by pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds. If the issue remains, try resetting it by pressing and holding the Light and Bluetooth buttons for more than two seconds while it is on.
