• No, you do not need to have the case open for the earbuds to charge. It has a USB charger attached to the bottom side of the case.

• The case will charge if its opened or close, but just close it after use. That's what the flap is meant to do. Just make sure the case is charged so the earbuds will charge or it won't charge. Also, If you don't use it and want to recharge the earbuds just so it can be full; opening it will turn back on its led lights and charge it; just close it. It will charge.
