“Hello.If phone is vertical, the clamps need to go at the bottom of the phone because the back of the phone gets in the way when I try to screw the mount to tripod. Picture 2 of 14 shows that the clamps are near center of phone. Do I need specific tripod?”

Attach the clamp to the tripod before you put the phone in the clamp. It works. Trust me.

Please try again later.The image in question is of the GripTight Smart on top of the GorillaPod 1k Kit (the Smart clamp actually comes in the Best Buy-exclusive GorillaPod 1k Smart Kit). To use the clamp vertically, you can use a low profile ball head or mount like what comes in the 1k kit, or you can use a ball head that allows for a 90 degree 'portrait mode' and mount the GripTight using the bottom thread and mount the phone out to the side.
