Not knowing your full situation, unless you have a subscription to a plan, you will not have anything but the same “advertisement for XM”. If you have registered your unit with XM(essentially activating it) then you should be able to go to other channels (other than channel 0 or 1). Typically, when you register with XM your trial service starts (depends on the deal you got when you bought your radio). They have a really good deal going on right now 12 months for $60 ( plus royalties and taxes about $79 all in) of course this all depends if they still have deals going or you may also get a better deal. I am not an XM rep nor intend to promote them and only mention because I just renewed. Hope this helps!
