My iphone 7 paired without issues, following the instructions on page 15 of the instruction manual. I suggest trying to pair a different brand Bluetooth device or smart phone, the radio should pair up to 5 Bluetooth audio devices. You can try connecting the device manually to the radio (USB cable), and then try pairing again. You can access the radio reset button by removing the faceplate, see the figure on page 3 of the instructions. The radio must be reset within 5 seconds of removing the faceplate.
