“I bought this for my 2016 Ford Fusion SE (w 8 inch screen, not Sony). When I consulted with a Best Buy installer, he said it wouldn't fit and that I needed a short chassis one. But Best Buy and Crutchfield websites both say it fits. Will it actually fit?”

Technically the unit will fit with slight modification to the inside of the dash. Best buy installers will not do the modifications needed. So a short chassis would eliminate the need for the modifications.
