It has to be used with curtain Kenwood head units, it’s a direct plug and play with curtain Kenwood units only. It cannot be used by itself.

That is not true, it can be used by itself you just will not have access to all it's functions. Now why would you purchase this as a stand alone when there are many cams out there that will work. I wouldn't purchase this as a stand alone but the fact is it will work as one.
