“We just purchased the Keurig HOT K500 Plus series coffee maker; do we need special bigger pods to make coffee using the carafe feature, will the coffee be strong enough, will you need to insert another k pod, does the coffee maker prompt you to do this?”

When you insert a reusable kcup, it’ll prompt you to use the carafe. Make sure to use 3-4cups setting.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you need to buy the carafe pods. Once the carafe is inserted the maker won let you choose the regular pod setting. What I’ve done in the past is not insert the carafe all the way. Then i just brewed 3 to 4 pods into the carafe. Note - try to get the carafe as close as possible without the maker knowing its there.

When the slight protrusion on the base of the Carafe is connected with the brewer, the Carafe will be perfectly in place for the beverage stream to flow directly into the Keurig® Carafe. There is no need to remove the lid of the Keurig® Carafe. Select a K-Carafe® pod and place it firmly in the Pod Holder. Please be sure that the number in the circle is at 9 o’clock when inserting. Then, lower the Handle. The brewer will recognize the inserted K-Carafe® pod and optimize to the recommended, customized setting for that particular beverage. Next, the display to brew a K-Carafe® pod will appear. Then, select a Brew Size (the system will automatically suggest the optimum brew size for that beverage type). Press the blinking “Brew” button and enjoy! Please note, the brew cycle won’t start until the Keurig® Carafe is secured in place. We hope this helps!
