yes it will just heat a cup of water without the coffee or tea pod.

It does heat water. I use the same Keurig every evening to make my cup of tea and the water is very hot.

Without a K-Cup Pod in place, you can follow the normal brewing process to dispense hot water. We hope this information is helpful.
