It may be your amp. Mine is powered by a Kicker 1600w max CXA 800.1 and I haven't had any problems. As far as tuning I let geek squad do that for me because I didn't want to damage the amp or the sub. Your amp may be too strong..

Please try again later.Also it's best to always run a slightly bigger Amp ex: 1100 watt rms mono Amp supporting 2 kicker comp R 12s 1000 watt rms total and adjust Amp lower. You never want to run a Amp not true to its rms watt output or run to small of a Amp. I started doing this and I on a kicker systems that's 4 years old. I still have original Amp and speakers.
