Hello Ruth, Yes this appliance can be used as a vent hood and does also have a light on the bottom to shine on the coking surface below. We hope this helps.

It vents outside the house so we needed to have a hole made to outside fitted with a small hood like an outdoor dryer vent. It has 2 lights for over the range. They are nice and bright and have 2 levels of brightness. I thought this was silly expensive but it serves its purpose ( no more smoke alarms while cooking). It’s sleek and performs well
