It has a filter like cup that needs to be removed and cleaned. Easy to remove, rinse out and replace.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is a large particle catch filter on the bottom of the unit that can easily be removed to dump the particles. There is no pulverizer or filter that needs to be periodically cleaned.

It's triangular in shape, approximately 3 1/2 inches on a side and, maybe, 2 or 3 inches deep. The side walls of this are a grid with holes that are about 1/4 inch square. It's called a "Foreign Object Cup". There is no mention of an internal grinder and, apparently, they think that anything smaller than approximately 1/4 inch in size will pass through to your sink disposal. We usually pre-rinse our dishes in the sink, so it's no problem for us. If you think that you need the internal grinder, there are some, mostly GE models, that have this feature. Do the Best Buy dishwasher product search and specify "Hard Food Disposer".
