I am sorry but I have been through the same issue with a previous combo from GE. I looked for a 2 piece unit but it would require wood work to enlarge the space for the new 2 piece unit, if I got it. I opted to go with the 1 piece unit because the problems I had with the GE had been remedied with the new KitchenAid in that the microwave was stainless steel throughout while the GE was painted white. That had been the main issue, the paint was peeling off making it unsafe to use. The new microwave is also a convection oven that is a nice addition to the capabilities. Being a one piece, yes, if it ever breaks down you will have to lose the whole oven, if it ever does!
