A:Answer I am using my oven for the first time - we are baking a small tray of fish and fries at 450' . The outside of my oven (sides and top) are very hot. I cannot touch them without pulling my hand away. I had planned on sitting this toaster onto the shelf of a kitchen hutch, but after seeing how hot the exterior can get there is no way.
This oven needs its own wide open space away from other items. I would caution using it around children and pets coming near as well. I am disappointed that I misinterpreted the "Cool Touch" answer. At the risk of embarrassing myself, I will also say that I did not completely understand the "start" button... whether that starts the oven preheating or starts a timer, or both. The timer seems to be preset at 30 mins, and began timing while the oven was preheating. I thought I shut off the timer function by pushing the start button again, but it still shut of the oven after 30 mins and we were not done cooking. I usually love KitchenAid appliances, but this one is not what I was hoping for.
