• Yes, depending on the food item, it may process the food before you put the food pusher in. It is fast.

• Mine won’t either. You have to put the large pusher into top before it will run. You cannot process large items, mushy always use small pusher. Why?

• The lid must be locked in, but it will run without the "pusher" locked in for continuous feed without stopping. You do have to pre cut your food to fit in the chute though. I love mine!
