There are a few high quality plastic parts in the 10-speed switch, and of course a fiberglass circuit board, and the only other non-metal part is the lift cam for the bowl lift (for lubrication purposes), but it's hefty. This mixer is the real deal with a steel permanent magnet DC brush motor, all sintered metal planetary gears, Unheard of in this day and age: just bought a Pro 5 for my wife. Made in Greenville, OH. For reference see BOLTR KitchenAid on YouTube for an inside look at the similar Pro 6 teardown -(warning-he uses some salty language, and is kind of rough around the edges, but an absolute expert on power tool and appliance engineering, plastics and metals technology, and manufacturing), and he was thoroughly impressed with its internal construction. My 2 cents.
