The max watts is 525 peak, which equals .70 HP at full load.

I can tell you that I have used mine for churning ice cream and had no issues. Mine is a Pro series with the bowl lifter, not the head tilter. I also own a Vitamix that is awesome! But since that stand mixer and the Vitamix have different functions, I don't think the hp rating would directly correlate.
