Hi. I wish I knew more about speakers in the technical sense. I got this speaker because its one simple optical audio cable to hook up. I have had a couple of other soundbars and like the sound of this one much better. It has little speakers on each end which maybe serve as a built in sub woofer, which does give it a little bit of a surround effect. I am very happy with it. You said your others were hooked up through a receiver. If you still have an optical audio cable port on your tv, I suppose you can hook it up. I think the sound would be good along with your other speakers. I don't believe the settings on my tv allow me to select more that one sound source, either internal tv speaker or another audio source. I am not sure if its different since you are going through a receiver for your other speakers. Wish I was more help. You could always give it a try and return if it doesn't work out. I purchased mine in a Best Buy store thinking it was $200 but it rang up half the price and I discovered it was on clearance.
