From my understanding these speakers are meant to be placed on top of your floor standing speakers or mounted to the wall. The mounting bracket underneath doesn't seam to allow for a ceiling mount support but perhaps you can get away with it but i wouldn't recommend it bc they could slide off female built in bracket and fall to the ground if they are mounted vertically. My setup allows the sound to bounce off the ceiling. I don't know how to tech a proper dobly atmos setup. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The R-40SA should either be placed on top of a front/rear tower speaker (this would bounce the sound off of the ceiling towards the listening position), or mounted to the wall (placed at a distance and height that would direct the sound towards the listening position). Examples of each of these configurations can be found on the Dolby website. For a drop down ceiling, we would recommend the second option, mounting the speakers on the wall. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They sit on top of my 2 front floor speakers. You can use them as height speakers and place them high up on the wall facing your seating position above your TV. Overhead option you're referring to, needs to be selected in your receiver setup options as well as the Dolby enabled sp, or height. Well at least mine does.. good luck
