It uses an SD Card (required) to store images. When done scanning, simply unplug the usb power cable from the power source and plug it into an available usb port on a laptop/desktop computer. From there you can transfer them to the media you choose (DVD/USB Flash drive/Computer SSD or hard drive). I don't believe you scan directly to a computer hard drive. The scans will only appear on the SD card. Max size 32gb
