Could you use it vertically? null

Probably not. As the mounting screws are located on the sides. This does not sit in the window sill but on it which alloy the window to be closed with the unit remaining attached. I can’t see how you could jerry rig it to mount safely.

The panels have an edge to them that cups around or attaches to the window frame. I would go horizontal.
