The front panel does get warm and they could get burned.

Please try again later.The heating element has a protective casing over it, so the unit itself will not burn them but if the thermostat is turned all the way up and the unit is on high and not swiveling the heat will burn them if they are too close. It is dry heat and will cook you if you fall asleep in front of the unit. It will get hot enough to melt plastics and even cause paint to bubble but the unit itself stays pretty cool to the touch
