“How does one get to the memory slot inside the laptop to add a 8GB stick of RAM? Does one have to remove the entire bottom plate of the laptop? Or, is there a small plate that is easily removed that gives the user direct access to the memory slot?”

I found a youtube video as walkthrough - took me a while to find one and rules prohibit adding a link, but search it and you'll find one or more. But basically, remove the bottom, disconnect the power, there's a metallic panel covering the space for additional RAM. Pull it off, add the RAM, reconnect the power, replace the panel(s) and you're done. VERY very simple
