“I'm considering upgrading cooling to one of Corsairs liquid cooling systems. It looks as easy as unscrewing the current fan and installing the new one. Am I overly optimistic? Does anyone have a resource that could guide someone new through this”

You will have to supply the screws 2.5 x 20mm screws are required to install a new cooler. These will fit the backplate they installed. Otherwise you will have to take out the motherboard to get to the backplate. Lenovo has it blocked off with a metal plate. Go figure
