Hi James, We are sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue setting voice alarms with your Lenovo Smart Clock Essential. Setting an alarm should be as easy as saying "Okay Google set an alarm for 8 am." Here is a link with some more information from the official Lenovo support page https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht511024-lenovo-smart-clock-faq-and-troubleshooting-guide#16 If your device isn't functioning in this manner please power cycle the device by unplugging it for 1-2 minutes. Plugging it back in, and allowing it to power on. If the issue remains please perform a factory reset by holding down the “Volume + and – ” buttons on top of your device for 8 Seconds.
