Hi carl, currently the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential can only Dim to 1% screen brightness. To do this you can say "Okay Google screen brightness 1%". If you need further assistance please reach out to Lenovo Tech Support at 866-426-0911
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There has been a firmware update since the last answer - this model now has the ability to turn the screen off completely at night. You can even set a schedule in the Google Home app to have it automatically shut off at a set time every night.

Any time you interact with the assistant, the screen brightness will return to whatever non-zero value it had before. I therefore set up a macro so I just tell it "go dark" and it will first set screen brightness to 1% (anything up to 15% produces the same), turn off the nightlight in case it happens to be on, then sets screen brightness to 0%. That way if I ask it the time in the middle of the night, I won't be blasted by a super-bright screen and can just tell it to "go dark" again afterward.
