• I am not an electrician but it may be overheating because you have something plugged into it that is drawing too much power, such as a space heater or something like that. That would be my 1st thought, if you only have like a lamp plugged in and its getting excessively hot then there might be a problem with the plug and get it checked out as soon as possible.
