Price is a function of the configuration of the device. The processor amount of RAM, size of hard drive, resolution of the screen etc. The ThinkPad Series is also made for business so it includes special, business related software and hardware that are not included on the consumer Lenovo models.

The ThinkPads had extra, subtle features like an internal tray underneath the keyboard, with drainage holes out the bottom. Why? so if you spill your soda on the keyboard it drains around the keys and out the bottom - and doesn't get on the circuit boards. Who cares about those features? Did you select a laptop - one that resist spills? Very few people care about these things. ThinkPads had, and still have, better-feeling keys. Some ThinkPads have the little red dot in the middle of the keypad; it's a joystick to control the mouse. Differences like those separate the more-expensive ThinkPads from the more-economical, but still good, basic Lenovo laptops.
