It can vary greatly, but you could probably get around 4 hours or more based off reviews posted by other users. Regarding if it's suitable, that depends on the degree of multi-tasking and what the system requirements are for the programs you're using. The fans can probably be most "noisy" if the device is working hard, and ventilation is obstructed in any way. This means it is impossible to compare one company’s computer’s battery use vs. another. Some manufacturers do provide details on how they measured it, but this is a rarity. The best way to find this information is to search out reviews by trusted tech publications, where they give detailed explanations of their procedures, as well as comparisons to comparable models. As to noise, that is a very subjective measurement, as is the term "heavy workloads." I, personally, have rarely even heard my laptop's fans, and when I have, it has only been in a completely deserted room where I have had the CPU and RAM both hit maximum usage for several minutes.

You can also get a Surge Protector, an extension cord, or a 10’ AC Outlet cable. If you’re doing a lot of high end compiling or Geaphics you might want to look at beefier laptops.
