• I have the stainless steel model. The light comes on only when the unit is operating. It's my understanding that all three units are the same except for exterior color.

• I have the white model and, yes, the light does go on when the door is open and when the unit is running. The black interior mutes the light somewhat, but I find there's enough light to see if you've got a spillover-type condition.
