Not sure about the air coming in but You can set it up to go to the outside also you will need to do extra work and parts also the air circles inside and to the ceiling

Please try again later.From what I seen when installing this thing is that the fan will blow into the duct you have going outside, but there is nothing preventing some air from leaking into what would the the front of the microwave and into your house. Especially if your duct is restricted. That being said, I also found my unit to be useless at sucking smoke and steam.
