• No, the bottom of the TV isn't flat, has a slight curve in the center. Don't know how narrow your counter is but the stand is only 5 1/2 inches from back to front.

• I would say maybe...you may be able to balance it without the stand...but it really would perform better with the stand or hung on a wall. We currently use the stand.
