It does pair to newer direct tv remote without problem. We have the direct tv genie models and all you need to do is bring up LG on the list and I just hit option that said I did not know my product model number and direct tv genie scanned for me and found it without a problem. So you can turn the tv off with the direct tv remote and this also will adjust the volume.

Please try again later.I use both the remote it came with to turn it on/off, sound, and Smart features, but my Fios remote connects DVR, On Demand,etc. I hooked it all myself, 70+ female and doesn't have a lot of knowledge about hooking all that stuff together and it was easy. So if you had the extra knowledge you probably could do even more. I love the tv!!

You would need to contact DirectTV to inquire if their remotes are universal remotes that have discreet infrared codes that you can use to control the LG HD 720p Smart LED TV - 24" Class (23.6" Diag), Model # 24LJ4840-WU with. Some set top boxes have a tutorial that you can access to get instructions on how to program their remotes to work with various TVs...^IFV
