Does a rinse agent (JetDry,etc) HAVE to be added to this machine for it to work correctly? If I leave the rinse agent empty will machine work correctly without error codes? null

Yes, it will run correctly. The Add Rinse Aid message will display but that does not prevent operation in any way. Some dishes, especially plastics, may not come out completely dry without rinse aid.
