• I bought this device for my daughters Apple MacBook Air. She is not techy but did not have any issues with the use of this device. I am not aware of any system specific requirements. I hope this helps.

• Yes it is compatable, however the main software disk must be loaded and run first. Then the Mac recognizes it as a CD drive, but the disc does t really install a thing. Just makes it pop up on your disk utility after the fact.
