A ventless dryer works differently than a conventional one. While there is no vent hose hook up, the dryer requires good airflow like all heat transfer devices. I would say it does take longer to dry clothes, but believe they are more energy efficient than conventional dryers which exhausts heat thru the vent. I wouldn't recommend a ventless heater if you have an existing vent, but it works good for me in my condo without one.

For us the compactness of the washer dryer combo out weighted these disadvantages. We did look for a vented model after purchasing and using this one. GE makes one. Best Buy sells it. You may want to look at it.
