Appears initial wash cycle water flow comes through entire width of fabric softener/detergent tray which would empty entire tray at start of cycle. How then does fabric soft get utilized at point of rinse cycle which is appropriate timing for that? null

It only appears that way, Only the soap is dispensed for the wash cycle, and the fabric softener during the rinse cycle. The stream is wide so it can reach the selected fill level sooner.
