I am interested in a front loader washing machine but do not understand the need to keep the door open when not in use.
I understand it is to prevent mold but this takes up my whole laundry room to keep it open! Suggestions? null

I understand it is to prevent mold but this takes up my whole laundry room to keep it open! Suggestions? null

Just keep it opened a crack, not wide open.

Due to the tight seal on doors for Front Load Washers, it’s more common for mold and mildew to develop in front-loading washers, but it can happen in top-loaders, too — especially in warm, humid climates.
It's for this reason this reason, that it is recommended to  leave the door or lid open in between loads to give the machine time to dry.
If you don't want to leave the door open, then you will need to always move your laundry to the dryer promptly, and ensure that you use a cloth to wipe the gaskets, the drum, and wipe any moisture from the cabinet to make sure that the washer is as dry as possible...^Ivan
