The ventilation lever must be in the CLOSE position in order to maintain the best cooling conditions. When fresh air is necessary in the room, set the ventilation lever to the OPEN position. The damper is opened and room air is drawn out. yes... it has one of those typical push/pull rods that needs to be unfolded and set to protrude out through the grill cover. it opens/closes a ~1 1/2" square flap to let in fresh air or shut it for a more closed system...
