The LG - 49" Class (48.7" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV - Black, Model # 49UH6100 is a 16:9 aspect ratio TV and any content with a 16:9 aspect ratio (1.77:1) will fill the screen fully. The most common aspect ratios used today in the presentation of films are 1:85:1 and 2.39:1. 16:9 (or 1.77:1) is the widescreen standard and international standard format for HDTV and when content with higher aspect ratios like 2.39:1 is shown on a 16:9 TV, the black bands on the top and the bottom of the picture are automatically generated to maintain the aspect ratio so the images in the picture do not appear "squashed" or distorted. Many DVD movies are wider than 16:9... If you look on the jewel box for Blu-Ray DVD or DVDs, you will see what aspect ratio the film is shot in and typically when watching movies on TV, it will say that the movie has been formatted to fit your screen...^IFV
