• Yes, the lid may be wet. Top Loading Machines are not sealed as tight so there always is some air circulation to help it dry, but keeping the lid open allows a bit more airflow which certainly helps. You may want to keep the lid open for a few hours after a wash to facilitate quicker drying if you prefer, but it is not critical. ^CP

• My machine does the same thing. Leaving the lid open for a time evaporates all the moisture.
