It's fine. When I wash wool (yes, I know, I shouldn't) or my fancy underwear, I make sure to bag them in those net things, and I edit the settings to get less warm water, etc. You can edit things yourself and control temperature, amount of water, how much it should spin, etc. You can make your own settings through the app as well. I just make sure it's on the gentlest thing for wool and my fancy bras. So I might agree it's only fair for gentleness if you use their own settings. But you can edit everything, so you can make it as gentle as you wish.
