The entire griddle (end-to-end including the handles) is 20 x 8.5". The 8.5" is at its widest point, since it gradually flares toward the center. As for cooking surface, however, that measures 17 x 7 7/8", since there's a raised lip around the edges. The griddle is cast iron, not coated with Teflon or the like.
