The washer features an ALLERGIENE™ cycle uses the intense heat of steam to remove over 95% of common household allergens, like dust mites and pet dander. Use this cycle to wash cloths that accumulate dust–like pillow covers, and bed sheets or with items that deserve special care like baby clothes and undergarments. Please see the link to review the Owner's Manual regarding cycles. ^Daphane http://gscs-manual.lge.com/DFZ/MFL68267072/en-us/main.html
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can't compare LG to Samsung but I've owned this washer for about 15 months now and do about 30 loads a month. The allergy cycle, called "Allergiene," is likely the least-efficient cycle available as it heats the water to something called "Very Hot" and uses the steam generator. It also takes over 4 hours to complete. You also have the option to add 1 to 3 additional rinses to most cycles, each rinse taking about 20 minutes. The extra rinses are needed to get out the residual wash detergent. It is a very fine and hard to discern line between using too much detergent that will almost never rinse out, and too little and get more poorly washed clothes. Not sure any cycle on any washer is designed to remove algae. I'd suggesting soaking outside in an algaecide first, rinsing very well with a hose, then using your washer.
