Yes it can be used as a slide in and a microwave can be mounted over top if it..and whether you want it ducted is open to you and the micro we ave you buy and how your house is..if you have a duct already then make sure your microwave is rear or top ducted depending on your setup and if its not ducted you can still do a.microwave but it will just recirculation the air back into the kitchen
