You can actually login to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, vudu, Google play, you tube and game fly directly through the TV if you connect it to your home router via wifi or ethernet. The TV remote does turn the TV on and off. Hope this helps

You can connect a laptop directly to the TV's hdmi port and stream any content from the laptop to the TV. The remote will turn the TV on and off.

Yes the remote turns the tv on and off. Not sure why you don't care about the apps. I use the Netflix app on the tv so that i don't have to go through the trouble of hooking up my laptop every time. It's an awesome tv.

However, You can use other devices to stream videos via HDMI cable if you wish. Yes, the remote will turn it on and off. Hope this will help!
